About

As estate agents say, Location, Location, Location – the Motel could not be any closer to the city centre with its bustling, vibrant and yes, a little boisterous and rich urban street life, with buskers, performers, classical opera singers and even over-indulgent partygoers and late night revellers. Don’t worry about St. Helen’s church bells however, they do stop overnight!

Impossible Motel is an adventure best taken on your own or within the company of that special someone and so it’s strictly 18+.

The Motel is located in a building of elegant historic architecture, actually a former bank, but don’t worry, we took out all the money and threw ourselves a massive party.

With the balance, Impossible Motel was carefully crafted and offers visitors to York the advantage of being in the heart of the action while cosseted in halotestin cycle lovingly prepared spaces in this gorgeous grade 2 listed building. Having opened in  December 2022, offering 13 fabulous zen-like accommodation spaces, intimate bathrooms, tantalizing basement rooms and secret roof top terraces with the city’s only rooftop private Jacuzzi experiences, the Motel offers a little something for every type of discerning, curious, open minded, hedonistic and ‘dare to be different’ traveller.

Everyone working at the property brings in their ‘best self’ to work every day and our singular aim is to wow you with memorable service levels at every turn. If for any reason we have come up short in your opinion, simply let us know and we will get right to it, fixing whatever concerns you may have. Street life will go on, we can’t stop that, but quenched light bulbs, leaky taps and even maybe broken hearts? Every room goes through its own little MOT prior to every guest arrival, but we will always do our best to put things right if they change unexpectedly during your stay!

Impossible York offers proper food, freshly prepared and paired with perfect drink options. In fact, the food and beverage professionals at Impossible have created such a wonderful collection of experiences, you may never have to, or want to leave the building during your stay. With possible visits to Wonder bar restaurant and tea rooms or the fabulous and entrancing Pink cocktail bar where mixology is King! The heady mix of such great libation, and uber cool vibes, may have you lulled into a euphoric state of soporific torpor, before you know it, or perhaps wanting to ‘trip the light fandango’.

And do plan your visit to be sure to take in an exciting event at the Titanic-esque Showcase on the first floor with a very diverse calendar of entertainment options. One thing is for sure, you will find it very hard not to stop by to enjoy some form of dining or libation during your stay. At Impossible, we want to ensure you have the chance to eat, drink, explore, rest and play a while, and then want to come back to do it all over again.

If you are looking for a memorable experience in York, then you may well seek out Jorvik, York dungeons, Cliffords Tower, The Shambles, Museum Gardens or visit one of many iconic buildings, and there are over 2000 heritage listed properties in the city, the home of Impossible being one of them. Check out our Explore page to get some ideas for some great adventure filled days and our ‘bespoke travel collection’ curated for those wishing to indulge in something a little more private and full on.

Internally at the Motel, the rooms are spread over three floors: basement/below ground, 1st Floor (That’s 2nd Floor to our friends across the pond in the big US of A) and 2nd Floor (US 3rd floor) and to be very candid, we have no lift/elevator. While we are happy to help all of our guests with their luggage, it is down to our staff on shift as to whether they are comfortable. Unfortunately The Incredible Hulk isn’t on our team! Working with a grade 2 listed building that was built in the built in 1829, we are unable to provide access to our rooms other than via well-constructed and ample staircases. Less able-bodied guests or those with an element of mobility challenges, should check about access prior to booking. We will be happy to include details about the number of stairs between floors and emergency evacuation procedures to be sure all our guests are comfortable about the building and accessibility.

About our welcome, “the devil is in the details”, as the Impossible Motel team comes together to provide you with the warmest of welcomes and personalize your experience.
